I am

What do you say after the words, “I am?” Do you realize that you are labeling yourself? You are telling your self to be what you are saying you are. And then in-turn that will project emotions and how you feel. These statements you say out loud to your self can cause depression and sadness, or they can cause joy and hope and confidence.
I decided to keep track of the things I am saying to myself.
Here is my list.
I am weak (physically)
I am nerdy
I am awkward
I am lazy
I am insecure
I suck at being a mom
I am selfish
I would never be able to do that
I am losing my hair
I am chunky
I am too afraid
I am incompetent
I am too tall
I am not good enough
I also paid attention to the positive things that I thought or said lately. Here is what I came up with.
I am amazing
I am a fun mom
I am considerate
I am a good friend
I sacrifice a lot for others
I am strong, mentally
I am proud of myself
I am smart
Not all of these came in the “I am,” form but in some way I told myself these things. Positive or negative.
Becoming aware is the first step.
Part of that awareness for me, comes from recognizing it when others are saying it, and watching how it affects them. My kids will say such mean things to themselves and I will ALWAYS call it out.
I will call it out with you too.
I am not my bad experiences. I am not someone’s bad experiences with me.
I can be whoever I want to be by the things I say to my self over and over….if I believe it! For the positive and negative. Do I believe the negative. Or do I believe the positive?
Instead of giving me compassion with my bad thoughts, instead become aware of what you are saying to yourself and see how it’s affecting you!
That’s my thought for today!
“I am allowed to be a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time!”
